The 19th DuPont Awards Competition, sponsored by DuPont Packaging, honors innovation in packaging. This year, 135 entries were received.  The judging process considered criteria such as material specification of the package structure, marketplace acceptance, impact on consumers, function, improvement from current packaging and the degree of design, engineering or technical innovation.  Twenty-six international food and non-food packaging innovations received awards.

Canadian-based Cargo Cosmetics Corp. and  American supplier Arcade Marketing Corp. won a gold award in the New Product Category for Cargo ColorCards. The single-use, portable eye shadows are the size of a credit card.  The Cargo ColorCards are produced using a patented printing process that deposits a thin layer of eye shadow onto a 12 point decorated board.  Each decorative tin holds 28 ColorCards.

French-based RPC beauté was honored with gold for its bi-injection and electroplating technique used on Lancôme Color Fever lipstick. The cap appears translucent and metallic. RPC beauté was also recognized for innovative processes resulting in reduced cycle time for Lancôme Hypnose. Through a proprietary technique, RPC beauté reduced the cycle time of Surlyn.

Silver awards went to Korea’s Amore-Pacific  for Electronic Motion Changes Mascara (HERA Mascara Auto Magic), an electronically automated rotating mascara. Also receiving silver awards were Cargo Cosmetics Corp. Klocke of America, CP Formplast,
and Pearson Garnett Press for Cargo DailyGloss. Cargo Cosmetics, Exo Pack and Bellshire won a silver for Cargo Liquid Foundation.

During the final review of the entries, the judges also awarded Special Citations. The Suave hair care redesign was recognized as consumer, manufacturing and environmentally friendly.
